October 25, 2020 • In addition to four new continuing education courses, NYSSO's Symposium will feature a brief award ceremony honoring Terrance Schaefer with the Best of the Profession Award for Ophthalmic Technology, Sam Rind with the  Lifetime Achievement Award and John A. Kennedy, Jr., with a Lifetime Membership.

 The Symposium will feature four courses on:

  • Mentoring Post-Pandemic: How COVID-19 has changed the landscape of relocation or retirement.
  • The Fundamentals of Refraction
  • CrystalChrome: the newest thermal-cured photochromic technology
  • Taking the guesswork out of fitting digitally advanced ophthalmic lenses

  • 9:00 - 10:00 am Mentoring Post-Pandemic, the How and the Why - Katie Brownell, 1 Hour, Basic, Dual - Ms. Brownell will explore how COVID has changed the landscape  of re-location/retirement.  Is there opportunity beyond what we think we know?  Can we actually change the direction of the consumer?  Join us to find out.
  • 10:00 – 11:00 am Fundamentals of Refraction - Prof. Joseph Sollecito, 1 hour, Intermediate, Dual- this session will be an overview of the principles of refraction and the relationship of Rx analysis, and at times unmet patient expectations.  Whether you are a seasoned optician or an apprentice, there will be a take away for all just from listening to questions from our peers.

Each photochromic technological advancement is born from either a material or coating solution improvement. This course describes the latest improvement for photochromic casting technology for in-mass and informs us of the new patented CrystalChrome, the newest thermal cured hard coat coating photochromic technology.
  • 1:00- 2:00 pm   Unpacking a New Era – Doreen Gaede- 1 hour, O.D., Basic- Taking the guesswork out of fitting digitally advance ophthalmic lenses and unpacking the devices used in this new era of Non-Contact Devices. Please join us for a different approach to the standard which we are accustomed to. Learn about different lens designs and devices used to complete the fitting process. Using the most precise measurements and demonstrating the latest technology will help us gain more confidence to dispense and elevate the patient experience.
