The Assistant Manager, Optical Services reports to the Manager of Primary Care and Optical Services and works collaboratively with other departments and department heads in the UEC. The successful candidate will be an effective manager who takes initiative, leads by example, and fosters a spirit of teamwork to motivate/engage staff to meet their goals and objectives. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Working directly with patients to select and order eyewear and explain their insurance coverage
• Coordination of optician staffing
• Assist with selection of eyewear and inventory functions
• Supervision of the opticians and optometric technician and monitoring and assess team performance and goal achievement
• Assist the manager with the resolution of patient issues/complaints
• Establish training programs and mentor/coach the opticians and optometry interns
• Provide high quality patient care and elevate the customer experience
• Act as a liaison between the on-site laboratory and ordering functions
• Active involvement in quality assessment and improvement activities, including the development and implementation of quality controls
• Ensures compliance with UEC and departmental policies and ensures that display cases and equipment are well maintained

Minimum Requirements

Have a current New York State Optician license. A minimum of three years of healthcare experience. Knowledge in operational functions with problem solving skills. Ability to anticipate problems and take appropriate action. Computerized optical system experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Knowledge and ability to communicate vision plan coverage. Possess strong verbal and written communication, and leadership skills. Candidate would be required to be flexible with hours.Preferred:

Supervisory experience. Bilingual skills.

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am-5pm; Tuesday 11am-7pm; Saturday 9am-5pm.

Salary/Benefits

Annual Salary (including location pay) is $54,400 and there is also a generous benefit package. 15 days of annual leave to start and 13 paid holidays per year. We are a qualifying employer in the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. View our Benefits at a Glance
