10/29/23 Buffalo ECC Symposium

  • 9-10 am “Reduce Insurance Dependency and Increase Profitability,”  Presented by Samantha Toth.   Business Management, Intermediate.
Most eye care professionals join the profession to help people see clearly and improve their eye health, not to navigate managed vision care challenges. The requirements of having to use a specific laboratory and sell designated optical products to receive already low reimbursements have some managers and owners asking themselves, “Is it worth it?” to be a participating provider. This course is designed to help eye care professionals become less dependent on accepting vision insurance programs and to pivot away strategically so their patients and profitability are not adversely affected. Ideal for owners, office managers, optometrists, opticians, and marketing professionals.

  • 10-11 Barb Malobabich, “ IOT Ray II Pathway Lenses,” Ophthalmic Dispensing, Intermediate.
In this 1-hour course, you will learn about IOT’s Digital Ray-Path ® 2 Technology (AKA DRP2), and how it works in synergy with nature by harnessing the innate power of the human eye to create advanced lens designs such as Camber. DRP2 adds the intelligent use of the wearer’s natural accommodation, the small power adjustments the eyes naturally make to view objects at different distances.
Together, DRP2 and Camber are the Dynamic Duo of Technology. The unique, continuously changing front surface curvature of the Camber lens blank and the mathematical calculations of DRP2 allow for expanded reading zones with improved peripheral vision, excellent vision correction, and superb visual comfort. The Dynamic Duo works together to accommodate an expanded Rx range, offer better cosmetics (flatter), and yield wearer-preferred near-vision performance.
  • 11-12 Talk Saves Lives - Suicide Prevention,” Presented by Andrew Taddeo.  Business Management, Basic.
"Talk Saves Lives” is a talk about Suicide, Suicide Prevention, and Mental Health Care. This is an Informational talk about a subject that is difficult to talk about. Mental health care is just as important as physical health care but is often overlooked.
  • 12-12:30 Break with Vendors
  • 12:30-1:30 “Fitting Irregular Corneas with Corneal, Soft and Hybrid Designs,” Presented by Andrew Taddeo.  Contact Lens, Intermediate.
This course will cover the different types of irregular corneas that confront the contact lens practitioner and the different techniques used to fit these challenging corneas.
